Three Things To Love About Disney’s Basin White

Happy Monday, Main Street Pop In readers!

Today’s little getaway to Walt Disney World takes us inside the lobby of the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa to a happy little shop called Basin White.

Basin is a bath and beauty products business. The company makes adorable vegetable glycerin soaps (which are irresistible), scrubs, lotions, solid perfumes, etc. Of course at Disney, Basin takes it up a notch adding Mickey silhouettes to its products.

Basin’s glycerin soaps! I like to give these as gifts but can’t resist buying some for myself.

Basin White is the company’s line of luxury goods (a total fit for the Grand, Disney’s swankiest resort). The shop is located on the second level of the lobby and it’s one of my favorite “little gems” to visit. Here are three reasons why.

#1 Best Hand Washing Station

I hope that when Disney reopens Basin can keep this luxury hand-washing station.

Very often when we’re on the Monorail, we make a stop at the Grand for a moment of calm. Last August, when we wandered into Basin White the friendly cast members doted on the kiddos and encouraged them to test out the sugar scrubs at the handwashing station (my youngest heard the word “sugar” and was game). The demonstration was sweet, and it’s probably the cleanest the boy’s hands were the whole trip.

The ladies said the boys were welcome to come to the shop any time and use the sink to wash their hands. A sage piece of advice after a day at the Magic Kingdom. Then the boys were given a personal tour of the shop.

Which leads me to the second reason I love visiting Basin White.

#2 Candle Making

Glass containers of scented wax beads sit in a rainbow row ready for the task.

Basin White has a spot to make homemade scented candles. The kids were each given a glass jar to fill with wax beads of various colors and scents. They were very scientific about their scent choices, and surprisingly the activity took almost 20 minutes. The candles turned out to be one of my favorite Disney souvenirs. One has a layer of citrus smell that reminds me of the orange grove scene in the former Soarin’ Over California film.

#3 Bath Bombs for Tub Soaking

The Mickey bath bombs are the most fun for kids.

When our resort room has a bathtub in it, I always pick up a three-pack of bath bombs at Basin for use during our trip. The Disney-themed bombs have Mickey confetti and scents that remind me of places like The Confectionary or the Beaches & Cream Soda Shop. The bath bomb colors are vibrant, and I’m always a little nervous that I’m going to stain the hotel tub bright blue, but so far, the color washes away without a problem.

For kiddos too exhausted to take a bath at the end of a long park day, the bath bomb incentive has proved to be a handy tool to get the job done.

Is Basin White the kind of place you should make a special trip to visit? Probably not. But if you want to do a little resort exploring on a rainy day, place the Grand on your list and POP IN to meet the extra-friendly cast members at Basin White.

Just keep swimming! Stay safe, everyone!
